Some things you can only do with Dad!

Moms are great, of course. And, most of the time, that's who gets the most requests at this household. However, there are some things that only a Dad can do best...

Like start fires and roast marshmallows,
and make s'mores.And eating pstachios with Mom? Sorry. No go. I even tried. It was getting late and we'd promised Ethan he could have some pstachios before bed as a reward for something. Tom was outside working on a project and trying to get it done before dark. I got Ethan his pstachios. He looked distressed. He needed Dad. When asked why, he told me that he needed Dad to come inside and sit on the Lazy Boy chair and eat pstachios with him ... they have made that somewhat of a tradition when I can overlook the price and agree to buy them pstachios. I tried to fill the gap where the other nut ought to be, but apparantly Mom just doesn't know how to companionably eat pstachios. So, Dad ended up coming inside and sitting on the bench in the mudroom and eating pstachios with Ethan. It was all good. Ethan could now go to bed happy, full, and satisfied that Dad was still the great pstachio munching muchacho.
Power tools? Building a playground set? Mom gets the bump again. Ok, ok, Dad, we know you can win him over with your big boy toys. And I realize that Mom really doesn't do anything nearly as exciting as cutting up wood and drilling in screws. That's ok. Mom is actually really happy to get a break! We all love you!
