Bright eyed and bushy tailed at 6:20 am

It's that time of year again -- Back to School!

 

Ethan dutifully went to bed at 7 pm last nigt without making any excuses to stay up later (and even more surprising, he actually went to sleep!)  Mom wasn't as smart.  Just as she was getting ready to head to bed, she remembered she hadn't finished going through Ethan's packet of stuff from school yet and still needed to write a check for his school lunches.  Just as she was finishing that, Tom came in and gave her a job that needed to be done before morning (as he, too, had to be up bright and early to catch a plane).  After getting that done, she was about to go to bed when she discovered that Ethan's shoes were still soaking wet from when we had biked around the lake earlier in the day and gotten stuck in a downpour.  Not wanting to put the muddy shoes in her clean dryer, she stuck newspapers in the shoes to dry them out.  At 10:30 pm, Dad decided that this was not going to get them dry in time, so started blow drying them with a hairdryer.  Feeling obliged to help, Mom got back out of bed to get the 2nd hairdryer and go to work on the other shoe.  At 11:15, the lights were finally out and everyone was in bed.  However, sleep was elusive.  You don't just go from staying up late all summer long to getting to sleep the minte you hit the pillow.  Tonight, however, may be a different story! 

 

 

Mr. Ethan was all bright-eyed and bushy tailed this morning, ready to start 1st grade!  With his new Angry Birds backpack and favourite shark t-shirt on, he donned his mostly dry shoes and headed out the door and down the road. 

 

 

And there, through the fog, appeared the flashing lights of the magic school bus to whisk him off to the land of learning. 

 

Mom was not bright eyed and bushy tailed.  She did refrain from going back to bed when she got home, but just barely!
